Holiday tips for moped and light motorcycle

The high season for the classic driving tours is already coming to an end. Many moped enthusiasts will make plans for the upcoming touring season in 2020. Zündapp. One gives you some tips for trips abroad.

  • Ötztaler Moped Marathon (ÖMM). The Ötztal Moped Marathon cannot be compared with a normal tour for classic mopeds, or "Mopeds", as our eastern neighbors call the moped. In 2019 more than 2,000 enthusiasts rode along. It is a barren, bizarre and extreme tour of 235 km for classic mopeds with often playfully dressed participants over the highest and steepest mountains of the Austrian sub-street Tyrol. Every year around the end of June it is a big party with good organization from Sölden in Austria. The date for 2020 is not yet set, but will be announced at http://info.mopedmarathon.at/. The ÖMM route covers the Brenner Pass (1,377 meters), Jaufenpass (2,090 meters), Kühtaisattel (2,020 meters) and the Timmelsjoch at 2,509 meters.

  • Vorarlberger Moped Ride (VMM). This long drive starts at the end of June from Dornbirn in West Austria in the federal state of Vorarlberg. The ride is 190 km long and covers 5 large mountain passes and has 4,200 meters of altitude. Only 50 cc mopeds (Mopeds) are allowed. The number of participants is limited to 800. After the start, the participants set out for Hohenems, Götzis through the Klauser forest towards Muntlix and further to the Laternsertal. The first challenge is on the program with the Furkajoch (1,760 meters). Then over the Faschinajoch (1,513 meters) through the Grosswalsertal to Bludenz, in the direction of Arlberg to the highest point of the exit, the Flexenpass (1,810). The route continues for the participants via Zürs, Lech to Warth on the Hochtannberg (1,705). Then the Bregenzerwald waits until Schwarzenberg. From there it goes over the Bödele (1,139 meters) again towards Dornbirn to the Mohrenbrauerei. A challenge for participants and for the moped at the same time.

  • Schwarzwald Moped Marathon (SMM). This marathon for mopeds, mopeds and scooters up to 50 cc runs through the middle of the Black Forest. There are two options to choose from: The Royal Route with a length of around 229 km and, alternatively, a shorter route with a length of around 170 km. The SMM is usually held at the end of June. At the start there is breakfast, on the way food and lunch are provided, at the finish an SMM T-shirt - all included in the registration fee. In the evening a cool party with live band, prize giving and lottery, with the Hercules moped as the main prize. Conclusion: nice route with little traffic. Great organization, friendly people, good party grounds, free camping, great food at a decent price. For info see: https://schwarzwald-moped-marathon.de/

--Thönlohe Treffen. Thonlohe is a district of Hemau, a city in the Regensburg region. The event takes place in the village of Thonlohe and is one of the most beautiful and largest tours in Bavaria. The entire farmyard of the Gschrei family is then full of mopeds and motorbikes, but also classic dwarf cars. The Zündapp brand in particular is represented here. The more than 50 members of the Thonloher Verein have more than 180 Zündapps in their ranks, all of which can be seen. Hans Gschrei and his club members provide this tour, which usually takes place at the beginning of July. Info via https://www.zuendapp.net/FORUM/portal.php

--Haflhof Bavaria. Every year, around mid-July, a large Zündapp Treffen takes place in Oberbayern. Not only Zündapps, but other brands are also participating. Motorbikes and mopeds ride together on the southern German Landesstrassen. The Haflhof team consists of Georg & Elke Ott, Alexandra & Rainer Ott and the Ha fl hof Team. This very atmospheric Zündapp Treffen is held every year in mid-July and consists mainly of a cozy get-together, “gasoline conversations” and a tour through the Egmating region. The Alps are only 30 km away, so you have a continuous view of the mountains. Egmating itself is also hilly.

In 2017 the big Zündapp100 event was held in Sigmaringen and one of the attractions was the Zündapp museum of the Zoller-Hof brewery, among others the enthusiastic manager Ralf Rakel. An absolute must; the Zündapp museum, the Brewery and the adjacent atmospheric restaurant. The surroundings of Sigmaringen lend themselves to beautiful tours on the Zündapp. More information is available on the ZVC website. Search for Zoller Hof.
